Perfume Pen Applicator Specifics and Final Assembly -

Follow the order given below to assemble the finished bead/brass tubes and remaining parts. On some projects it is essential to do the parts in sequence. If you don't, you may put in a part, then put in another part, press or hammer, and the first part will go in beyond where it is supposed to. Start each step by hand; then you will need to finish with a bench vise that has cardboard, rubber, or nylon on it's jaws,. OR a hammer with thick cardboard, rubber or nylon taped to it's head. When using a hammer, have thick cardboard, rubber or nylon on your tabletop surface also. This will protect the gold finish and metal parts of the project from the pressure of the vise or hammer. The tendency is to over hammer, etc., be careful.

The Perfume Applicator Pen comes with an approximately 1" white "Applicator Tip", that is inserted into the long neck of the bottom half of the Applicator Pen. It will be a little loose when purchased. Dip it into liquid perfume (be careful not to drop it out of the Pen). It will swell and fit tighlty in the neck of the Applicator Pen.

The perfume will last approximately 2 to 3 months, when you also use the long white "Wick" that can go in the bottom brass tube. This Applicator/Neck/and black 'O' Ring unit is leakproof. But DO NOT, by any means, fill the bottom tube of the Applicator Pen with perfume. It is NOT leakproof. There is a long 'wick' in the bottom tube, but it is intended as a 'retainer' to help keep the Applicator tip from drying out prematurely. It will Retain the some of hte smell of the perfume. SO, if you think you will be changing perfumes, Don't use the long white Wick, because there isn't an efficient way to clean it with alcohol. You will just have to re-dip the Applicator Tip into liquid prefume more often.

When the Applicator Tip does become dry, it can be removed from the Pen and cleaned (soaked) in Isopropyl Alcohol if you want to switch to another perfume. (You can use a hair dryer on the applicator tip to dry it out.) Refill Tips are available. If after cleaning the 'O' ring, and surrounding areas with Alcohol, you still feel that the 'wick' in the bottom barrel has a smell, you can use a perfume funnel to pour alcohol in it, let it sit out and dry without the top on it. Be careful not to get alcohol on the bead areas.

This project comes in six pieces 1) The top tube, with one end having a gold internally threaded insert and one open end. 2) a small gold 'top cap' for the open end of the top portion of the perfume pen 3) The bottom tube with a long thin assembly with threads and an opening for the applicator tip on one end , and the other end is open for the 'wick' to go into 4) the wick (may already be inserted) 5) a small gold 'bottom cap' for the open end of the bottom tube 6) the applicator tip.The project goes together as follows:

After you have glued (as described above), or slipped your bead tubes on the brass tubes, begin each step by hand-pressing the parts together, then follow with vise or hammer(with rubber or thick cardboard taped to the head), or Quick-Grip Clamp (r) and rubber/rubber-lined blocks. There is no need for glue in parts assembly.

Top portion - After bead tubes are glued and dried, Press the Top Cap into the open end of the Top tube. If your bead design has a 'top' and a 'bottom' be aware of how you are glueing it onto the brass tube. You do not have to press it in all the way. Hammer or vise-press as described above in the general instructions. Always use appropriate cardboard or rubber (as described in the general directions), for protection of the parts.

Bottom portion - After bead tube is on this bottom brass tube, MAKE SURE to pull out the Applicator Tip first (if it has already been inserted). It is made of fiber, and will get crushed during the hammering together of project parts. Place the wick into the open end of the bottom beaded brass tube, Unless you think you will be changing perfumes. In that case, Don't use the long white Wick, because there isn't an efficient way to clean it with alcohol.

If your bead design has a 'top' and a 'bottom' be aware of how you are glueing it onto the brass tube. Press the End Cap on next. Hammer or vise-press as described above in the general instructions. Always use appropriate cardboard or rubber (as described in the general directions), for protection of the parts.

Approximate number of beads:

Flat Peyote Stitch - Top portion, With Delicas(r) size 11/0, string on 19 beads, and begin Odd Count Flat Peyote Stitch, make 34 complete rows. Join at seam. Bottom portion - with Delicas(r) size 11/0, string on 56 beads, make 34 complete rows. Join at seam.

Tubular Peyote Stitch - For each section: Delicas(r) size 11/0, string on 20 beads, start tubular peyote stitch until section is covered.

Be good to your beautiful projects. You might even want to make a fabric, or fabric-lined slip case for them.
