Letter Opener Specifics and Final Assembly
The total length of the letter opener is 6 1/4". The tube to be decorated is 2 3/8" long, and forms a recessed area for beads of 1/16". The letter opener comes in 4 pieces: 1) The Blade/Tang 2) Hilt and attached brass tube 3) Rings (one silver, one gold) 4) End Cap, threaded inside. The project goes together as follows:
In this project, DO Not put your 'bead tube' onto the brass tube without doing the following first:
Slide the gold and the silver rings onto the Hilt/Brass tube combo, then slide and/or glue your ‘bead tube' in place on the brass tube. If your bead design has a ‘top' and a ‘bottom' be aware of how you are glueing it onto the brass tube.
Press the End Cap into the open end of the beaded brass tube. Hammer or vise-press as described above in the general instructions. Do this WITHOUT the Blade/Tang inserted into the hilt/brass tube unit. Do not put the blade in until LAST. It will get bent if you try to hammer together the parts with the blade/tang inserted . Always use appropriate cardboard or rubber (as described in the general directions), for protection of the parts.
This entire bottom unit (Hilt/Ring(s)/beaded tube/End Cap) will screw onto the threaded Tang.
This Letter Opener is just that, a letter opener. Do not try to use it on packages, padded envelopes, etc. It is only made for letter weight paper envelopes.
